Acne Facts Prevention Tips

Follow these tips to help avoid future breakouts:

Avoid excess exposure to the sun.

Extended exposure to UV rays from the sun can increase clogging and
make acne worse.

Maintain a healthy skincare regimen.

Gently cleanse your face daily to remove extra oil, dead skin cells and
other surface impurities. Do not use drying, alcohol–based astringents
or cleansers, since they strip your skin´s natural oils. Over–dry skin reacts
by producing even more oil, which can worsen acne.

Limit exposure to acne-causing bacteria.

Replace or sterilize makeup sponges and brushes often to help prevent
bacteria from flourishing. Also frequently change pillowcases and towels.

Keep your skin free of excess oil and greasy cosmetics.

If you use cosmetics, make sure they are oil–free and non–comedogenic.
Oily makeup can clog pores.

Avoid touching or picking at affected areas.

Touching or picking at your skin can cause the oils and bacteria on
your hands to enter your skin, making acne worse. It can also cause
permanent scarring.

Reduce stress.

Stress can raise hormone levels in your body, increasing oil production
and leading to further breakouts. Activities like yoga and meditation keep
stress–caused acne under control.

Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.

A balanced diet that includes plenty of antioxidant–rich fruits and vegetables,
regular exercise and adequate sleep will help keep your skin looking and
feeling its best.
